Frequently Asked Questions

About Us
What is Stoop?
Plus icon
Stoop is a culture driven creative studio. We help brands discover their identity, sharpen how they perform, and build a community around what they do. In plain terms, we turn businesses into brands that connect with people and last. We're based in Brisbane and work with clients across Australia and around the world.
What does "culture-driven creative studio" actually mean?
Plus icon
It means we start with people, not pixels. Culture is what a brand feels like to the people who buy into it, work for it, and talk about it. We build brands that tap into that, so the work resonates well beyond a logo or a launch. Five values guide everything we make: courage, creativity, collaboration, community and culture.
Where does the name Stoop come from?
Plus icon
A stoop is the small set of steps at the front of a house. It's the in-between space where neighbours stop, talk and swap ideas. Stoop started on the front steps of a townhouse in north Brisbane, dreaming and creating with friends, and the name stuck because that's still how we like to work: open, social and rooted in community.
Where is Stoop based, and do you work with clients outside Brisbane?
Plus icon
We're based in Brisbane and we work globally. Plenty of our clients are local, but we've also partnered with brands further afield, from Major League Rugby and the Seattle Seawolves in the US to businesses right across Australia. Good work doesn't care about postcodes.
Who's behind Stoop?
Plus icon
A small, senior team led by Rhys Ferguson, our Creative Director. Alongside him are Abbie Laube (Creative Strategist) and Julia Ryan (Brand Strategist and Design Lead), plus Copper, our very good Head of Security. You work directly with the people doing the work, not a chain of account managers.
Our Services
What services does Stoop offer?
Plus icon
We cover the full brand journey across six areas: strategy, branding, design, digital, social and content. That spans brand strategy and architecture, visual and verbal identity, websites, packaging, campaigns, photography and video, social media management, and ongoing content. Whether you're launching something new or breathing life into an existing brand, we can take it from idea to in-market.
What's the difference between branding, brand strategy and brand identity?
Plus icon
The quick version: brand strategy is the thinking (who you are, who you're for, and why you matter). Brand identity is how that shows up (the logo, colours, type, voice and the rest). Branding is the ongoing act of bringing both to life consistently, everywhere people meet you. Strategy comes first, because identity without it is just decoration.
I just need a logo. Can you do that?
Plus icon
We can, but a logo on its own rarely does the heavy lifting people hope for. A logo is one piece of a brand, not the whole thing. We'll always be honest about what will actually work for you, whether that's a full identity or something more focused. No upselling for the sake of it.
What is brand strategy, and why does my business need one?
Plus icon
Brand strategy is the foundation: a clear sense of your purpose, your audience, your positioning and your story. Without it, design decisions are guesswork and your marketing pulls in different directions. With it, everything you make has a reason to exist and a far better chance of landing. It's the difference between looking nice and being remembered.
What goes into a brand identity?
Plus icon
More than a logo. A full identity can include your visual system (logo, colour, typography, layout and imagery) and your verbal identity (name, voice and messaging), and increasingly motion and sound too. We pull it together into clear guidelines so your brand stays consistent whoever happens to be using it.
Do you write brand messaging and tone of voice?
Plus icon
Yes. Words are half of a brand. We develop taglines, messaging frameworks and tone of voice so your brand sounds as considered as it looks, and sounds like you rather than everyone else.
Do you offer brand naming?
Plus icon
Yes. Naming is one of the hardest things to get right and one of the most valuable. We've named businesses, products and ventures, including SPOT Consultants and Goodwork HR, landing on names that mean something, sound good out loud, and leave room to grow. It sits within our verbal identity work and often kicks off a wider brand build.
Do you design and build websites?
Plus icon
Yes. We design and develop websites, build web assets, and can handle hosting and maintenance after launch. Your site is usually where your brand works hardest, so we treat it as a core part of the identity, not an afterthought.
What platforms do you build websites on?
Plus icon
We build on Webflow most of the time. It gives us the design freedom to make a site that's genuinely on-brand, and it's easy for your team to keep updated after launch. If your project calls for a different platform, let us know what you're working with and we'll talk through the options. Our team also builds on Wordpress, Squarespace and Shopify.
Can you manage our social media and content?
Plus icon
We can. That covers social strategy, day-to-day management, community management, and the content itself: art direction, photography, video, animation and copywriting. Some clients hand us the lot. Others use us to lift the quality of what they're already doing.
What is Brand as a Service (BaaS)?
Plus icon
It's an ongoing partnership rather than a one-off project. Instead of briefing a new agency every time something comes up, you get continuous access to our team for design, content and brand work as you need it. Think of it as a creative studio on call, without the cost of building one in-house.
What's the difference between a brand refresh and a rebrand?
Plus icon
A refresh updates how your brand looks and feels while keeping your name and your core. It's an evolution: sharper, more current, still recognisably you. A rebrand goes further and can include changing the name itself, usually when the business has shifted direction, merged, or outgrown who it used to be. We'll help you work out which one you actually need, because the bigger move isn't always the right one.
We already have a brand. Can you help us refresh or rebrand it?
Plus icon
Absolutely, and a lot of our work is exactly this. Sometimes a brand has outgrown its look. Sometimes it never quite fit in the first place. We'll work out what's worth keeping and what needs to change, so you evolve the brand rather than start from scratch and lose what people already recognise.
Working With Us
What industries do you work in?
Plus icon
We work across construction, property, professional services, hospitality, education, health and wellness, travel, sport and e-commerce. We're not precious about category. What matters more is that you believe in what you're building and you're in it for the right reasons.
What size businesses do you work with?
Plus icon
All sizes. We've helped one-person operations find their feet and partnered with established organisations like the University of Queensland and Brisbane Catholic Education. The principles stay the same. Only the scale of the work changes.
What's your process like?
Plus icon
It starts with listening. We dig into your business, your audience and your goals before we make anything, often through a proper discovery process rather than a quick brief. From there we move into strategy, then identity, then execution, with you involved the whole way. We'd rather build the relationship over a coffee than a pitch deck.
How long does a branding project take?
Plus icon
It depends on scope. A focused piece of work can move quickly. A full strategy and identity build can run over several months, because the thinking takes time to get right. We'll give you a realistic timeline up front and hold ourselves to it.
How much does it cost to work with Stoop?
Plus icon
Every project is priced to its brief, so there's no one-size-fits-all number. Cost depends on what you need, from a single piece of work to a full brand build or an ongoing partnership. Tell us what you're trying to do and we'll put together a clear, tailored quote. No surprises.
Do you work project by project or on retainer?
Plus icon
Both. Some clients come to us for a defined project with a clear start and finish. Others prefer an ongoing relationship through our Brand as a Service model. We'll suggest whichever suits where your brand is right now.
What do you mean by being our "away team"?
Plus icon
It's how we describe being your external creative team. You get senior, specialist expertise and a broad skill set without the cost and overhead of hiring it all in-house. You focus on running your business while we bring the brand thinking, the fresh perspective and the talent, exactly when you need it.
How do we get started?
Plus icon
Email us at hello@stoop.studio, or see more of our work at stoop.studio. Got an idea you want to bring to life, or just want a chat over coffee? That's how most of our best work begins.
The best answers tend to come out of a proper conversation, not a FAQ. Tell us what you're building and we'll talk it through, no pitch deck required. Bring the idea, we'll bring the coffee.
